FBI and the Sun
Interesting response from a student in answering the question: "Why is most life on Earth dependent on solar energy to survive?"
"Most life on Earth is dependent on solar energy because the sun makes the plants grow and we eat the animals which we eat and after we die the FBI takes us away but this al happens because of the sun,"
1. That was one entire sentence.
2. The sentence ended with a comma.
3. The FBI takes us away after we die?!?! Someone's watching too much CSI/Law & Order!

High School Musical
It's always odd when Disney movie characters like "Zac Efron" become household names. Nevertheless... I like "High School Musical" just as much as the kid next door.

Writing Tablets
I just found out today that all the math teachers at the school are getting tablets to use for math classes. PTL! I've always wanted one, and now I will!! I love this school :) for now.

Shameful!
Here's the thing about teaching kids in Cupertino... some of them know how to use computer programs better than I can, including creating really wonderful Powerpoint Presentations and iMovies. Next trimester I'm supposed to be teaching Technology and I don't see how I could possibly be of use to those really tech-saavy students. (Maybe I'll just use them as helpers and give them an A for the class...) Still, I feel that their time can be better spent doing something else.
AND. I've realized that since I haven't done long division for a really long time, I royally suck at it. I can't even count the number of times when I've made a mistake in front of the class, and the students had to tell me what I did wrong. So what did I do? Spend the weekend practicing long division problems at home. I think I'm good to go now.

For Your Information
Just to let you know, I am not blogging again because I'm in a relationship. Besides, I would never blog about my relationship online!
I will now explain my "circumstances" that limit my blogging. I am now teaching 6th grade Math and Science as opposed to English and Social Studies. WHAT DO I KNOW ABOUT EARTH SCIENCE?!?! Needless to say, it's taking quite a lot of time planning for these new subjects --- mostly science (which also takes a lot of time to shop for lab supplies and setting/cleaning up). And minus the hour that I take eating and unwinding after I get home, I'm pretty much working ALL THE TIME. It really reminds me of my first year of teaching, where I was working every waking minute. It kind of really sucks, but next year will feel ever-so-sweeter again. It's like what they say --- pleasure is that much more pleasurable if you've already experienced the pain.
But looking on the bright side, my situation now is infinitely better than my first year in TFA. There's no more grad school going on simultaneously (I don't have to write papers), I got a new MacBook from school, new LCD projector, new speakers, and I actually enjoy staying in my classroom to do work. The last two years in LA, my classroom felt like a dungeon, and I never felt safe staying after 4:30. Now... most days I stay in my classroom and work until 6:30. It's not bad... especially with Pandora.com keeping me company.
And get this... as opposed to LAUSD blocking almost every single website, CUSD allows me to access all my web-based e-mail accounts, AND the school encourages the teachers to use iChat during school hours to communicate with each other. So if you see me on AIM during the day, it's not because I'm actually there to chat :)

Coming Home
After a two year hiatus, I've decided to start blogging again. I'm not sure how often I'll write, because of circumstances which I will describe in detail later. But I've decided to come back to Blogspot, largely in part due to me feeling inspired by Lydia, Brian, and Jodi, all of which are extremely eloquent folks. I can never hope to sound like them, but perhaps it's time to document some of my life again. I started blogging first on April 13, 2002 with Blogspot, then meandered my way through to Live Journal, and Xanga, which was quite the fad for a while with subscriptions and what not. But I've definitely come full circle now, returning to my first.... blog site.
It feels as if I've come full circle with many other aspects of my life, now that I've moved home. Two years ago about this time, I attended Shanta's Wedding while beginning my TFA career. Now that I've finished that tumultuous journey, I will see many of the same people at Amy's wedding in two weeks. And that reminds me... ANOTHER one of my friends are getting hitched. It's been consistently one to three weddings each year I've attended since my college graduation. Wonder when it'll be my turn --- not that I'm in a hurry or anything :)
